This is pretty interesting to me. China had a twin vehicle known as the “Teramont” revealed yesterday while the US got the Atlas. Apparently it slots between the Tiguan and Touareg. So the CUV lineup for the US is likely to be Tiguan, Atlas 2-Row, Atlas 3-Row, Touareg.

Pretty typical in China to rename models and different names for slightly restyled cars, current Jetta is called Sagitar, and EDM Passat is called Magotan.

I’m still surprised we got Atlas instead of Teramont is all.

I thought the Atlas was going to be over the touareg, since it’s bigger which usually means more expensive.

Most likely not near as nice. Bigger than a Touareg would be Q7 priced, I bet this is more in line with the Explorer. VW needs them sales.

Not in China at least, which is why VW keeps saying “affordable.” I think the lineup runs the same way as the Highlander which starts at $30k and the 4Runner which starts at $34k. So we’ll end up with a $27k Tiguan, $35k Atlas 2-row, $40k Atlas 3-row, and $50k Touareg. Either way, it looks as if something will happen in order to slot in one more crossover and its going to either be above (likely) or below the Tiguan.

It is going against the Explorer, traverse etc. I don’t understand why they gave it the same engine as the touareg, when it’s carrying more weight.

Makes sense. I hope they give it more engine choices at some point.

I don’t know about weight differences but the CX9 only comes with one engine making 250hp. IIRC the Atlas is supposed to get a hybrid or plug in model at some point.
